XPLR - Changes & Future

Post by AndyT306 on Wed Apr 03, 2013 3:25 pm

The staff at XPLR and we are sure most of the members have noticed a decline in those competing in our competitions.

We are fully aware that we have run some events on nights that conflict with other series running on other sites, we are also aware that we have been producing a lot of similar comps (mostly A class).

Where we are now is not ideal, at the current levels of participation running our competitions is not really viable with the effort put in by the testing and competition organisers to make sure we have exciting and balanced events.

so.....

Our current thinking is to run only 2 events a week, on a Monday/Friday night, these will be our fixed race nights.

In terms of competition, Monday night will be a low-mid powered competition, which will more than likely see the return of our more popular events.

Friday night will be targeted more at super sports/GT/race cars.

However, for XPLR to continue, we need YOU.... we need everyone to get involved in our series, and help promote the events, and keep discussion active on the forums.

Anyone with comments or suggestions, please share - we want the site to go forward in a positive manner, rather than just closing as was the decision taken by the previous administration - but if current participation/interest in competitions does not pick up, then XPLR will no longer run any competitions.

thanks TJ,,we need all the support we can get. We love doing what we do, but if we have no-one to do it for then we are beat before we start.

I would be sad to see it all go.

Im new and love XPLR but It was hard work finding this race league and some regular requiting/practice lobbys on live would be a big help.
Theres a bit to much going on at once and two set nights a week and running two series are a good idea. Friday is a great night for me as i do shift work and cant really make week day meetings when im on nights.
Also its intimidating for new requites when they first start out as they are up against seasoned veterans, after a couple of rounds they lose interest. Maybe a Novice championship within the overal championship would be a good idea, with points for both like the British super bikes or a handicap system i.e extra weight or power lose to even the field.
Dont want to see XPLR go down the pan, you fellas work too hard to let this slide!! This is only my opinion.

As the RCZ series was the first one I have competed in I think neilracing07 hit the nail on the head. I really enjoyed racing with you guys as it was fair and nice that 99% of the cars weren't totalled at the first corner. But I underestimated how damn quick some of you guys were. So in the second races with the reverse grid I felt like I was just getting in the way rather than competing. Would be good to have practise lobbies where I could possibly pick up some pointers. As i've only just joined recently I would hate for it to finish. I need to get quicker!.

For those commenting on being out of depth your not alone I can't keep up with the top guys on here and feel in the same boat from time to time, which is why we need to get numbers up!

If we can get back to 2/3 lobbies per round then the racing is much more balanced and enjoyable for all

I think there's a lot of people who don't know about XPLR. The other night, racing on TORA, in my qually lobby, some guys saying how much they love one make series etc. Sadly, I couldn't advertise us at the time, but the racers are out there. We need to spread the word. Any which way you can. Word of mouth is best. In a public lobby? See some decent drivers/racers? Tell them about us. I love this site and I'm glad that we as a team and a race community are not giving up so easy. That's good motivation for me. Smile

I like neils idea on adding weight / reducing power. I was watching the btcc on sunday and they are some close races and they add ballast to the faster drivers to make the races closer and also have a reverse grid which gives everyone a good chance at winning. Could use the weight reduction in forza as ballast and that may make it closer.

it is a bit harder in Forza.. we did do something similar in the XPLR open, which is something we could look at doing again

I know it would be harder in forza but if we use a mix of extra weight and power reductions it may work. Meby going from a fast car with good power and max weight reduction. Then gradually make them slower until you have 20-30% less power (would have to test to get the balance right) and max weight. I could play about with some tunes and see how much difference it makes to my times.

I'd definately be up for some public lobbies to spread the word. Could send some messages to people we have good races with.

In my opinion mate I don't think power would be the right way to go because in race pace the slower car will just get destroyed on straight and won't be able to get past in the corner, I think if you give them less grip with tyre widths and adding weight to the car it would work better as the faster guys will start cornering slower (The place where they make all the time) therefore bringing the whole pack together! Count, that would be great. We just need help to get the numbers up a bit. We dont want to be a huge machine of a site, but we need enough to fill a few lobbies so that the full range of drivers abilities are covered,,,meaning what ever your pace, you always have good clean racers round about you at a matched pace.

Any help is gratefully received chief Smile

I am one who was a regular but has been absent. At first it was mostly due to shabby connection during stormy weather, but then the cars used just weren't appealing to me. The BMW an exception, but there was a conflict with another series.

Lately, work has kept me really busy, working well into the night daily. Been lucky to get in my Friday Night Series, and even had to skip one of those.

Hoping to get time to race the Wobble Boxes, as I had a blast in the same cars when raced before.

Would a generic race livery for online public racing be a good idea?
I know we all use our own but with the xplr number boards and stuff but would it be a good idea to have a generic design for all cars for public lobbies?
